Re: OT: BIO - was CULT: USDA

My garden's in Raleigh, NC, USA (7b?) but I'm in Germantown, MD,
USA (6b?).

As you can guess, this created problems with keeping the garden in
reasonable shape even before a recent sprained ankle added more.
Long story about why my job now requires temporary moves to other
states about once a year omitted....

In case you're wondering, the garden was started when I wasn't
expecting any moves, and I still move there every other move.

I was planning to match the colors of two varieties of bearded iris
(probably TB) that my parents got from a neighbor with no information
on the cultivar name (if any), and later allowed to die out. I no longer
have any information on how to reach any neighbors from that time.
The ones whose houses are still standing were old enough then that
they are probably no longer alive now.

One had golden standards and purple falls; the pictures of Michigan
pride are a reasonable match, although the ones I've grown came
out with the standards closer to lavender. Any ideas on what causes
such a color difference?

The other had golden standards and falls; I haven't found a good
match yet.
