Amazing a forty year clump of iris in the barnyard hasn't killed all your
cows, Donald. There is a very large ranch just across the road from our
place and they run about 23,0000 head. There are iris all around these old
farm buildings and nary a dead cow can be found from eating iris.

Wendy, I grow both cows and irises. I've never known a cow to eat a
rhizome, but they have been known to pull them up and take a chomp or two
off the foliage. I've never heard from elsewhere they were harmful, but
perhaps that's because cattle really don't seem to like them much. Where
did you learn this? I would like to know. Maybe it's time to move that
forty year clump in the barnlot to a new location. What you don't know
doesn't hurt, but I do get superstititious when I learn something. Thanks.
