French Sources

A visitor from France has just given me iris catalogues from Cayeux and
M. Bourdillon. Both are marvellous collections of iris photographs
produced on very good quality paper. Most people have the Cayeux
address but fewer know the other nursery. Below, for those interested,
are the two addresses.

Cayeux, S.A., BP 35 - 45501 Gien, France

Catalogue 15FF

M. Bourdillon, EARL de Champagne, Route de Gy, BP 2-41230 Soings en
Sologne, France

No price on the catalogue.

If anyone visits Cayeux, I would suggest that they also pay a visit to
Nantes, a town on the coast which is not too far away. Our visitor was
the head of all parks, gardens and green space for the town and he gave
a wonderful talk on the great effort this town is making to promote
itself through gardens. The town holds two national collections,
Camellias and Magnolias, and some of these plants are two or three
hundred years old - the original plants that came to Europe when they
were first discovered. One of his responsibilities is an iris garden
which has a wide selection of species as well as cultivars.

By TGV this region of France is only about 2 hours from Paris.

Ian, is a cold, very icy and windy Ottawa where the only excitement is
the germination of Moraea in pots on my window ledge!
