The first Iris I saw I was in the eighth grade. She had just moved
into our school area from the town school. She had the blondest hair,
and she was pretty. She was my girl friend, as such, in the 1943. Two
years later she and her family moved back to town. In 1954, after
serving in Korea and Japan we came back home to see my mother. I saw
her one more time. Hadn't changed at all.
My mother and two neighbors would order iris from Schreiners or
Cooleys. Three years later they would separate and swap between
themselves. From my forced labors, sprang the iris desire. The only
one to stick in my mind is Elmohr. I think ;>). I mailed some iris to
my niece in Ohio. The first question she asked was "Are these grammas
iris?"
