CULT: heave

A few weeks ago when we had a patch of warm weather, I inspected the
seedling beds (the first time I've had seedlings planted in the
ground instead of pots) and many of them were totally heaved out of
the ground. To the best of my ability I stuffed them back down into
the ground. But today, during another warm spell, I found most had
heaved out again. How frustrating!

I also noticed that the rocky soil used in one of my bog beds had not
heaved at all. I wonder if adding gravel/rocks helps prevent heave?
Or if this was just an unrelated coincidence?

Some of my arilbred seedlings have incredible quantities of increases
off the main rhizome. I'm so impressed with these little guys! I
hope they start to bloom after all these years...
