Thanks, Jeff, for the walkthru of the old checklist entries. What a
pain...

As I understand it, the first goal of getting the checklists digitized
is to have an electronic 'copy' of the original printed version. As
those of us who have done some editing of the 'copies', and as you could
still see the last time I looked at entries online (many months ago),
there are/were/will be typos. Eventually, after many generations of
future nit-picking irisarians, all those typos will eventually be gone
from the copy.
The second goal will be to get a nice, clean, online database where any
typos from catalogs etc that were in the printed checklists might be
listed (with a link to the correct spelling), but superceded dates,
heredities, etc would not be included. I think.
Reality is that we are sort of doing both at the same time. I think.
Sometimes. At least when I was still editing, I was including
introduction information with the registration entry. For example, if I
was editing pages from the 80s checklist where an introduction wasn't
given, & Mike Lowe sent out updated information from the 90s checklist
for the name of the nursery that introduced it, I added that to the main
entry.
i.e., the 80s checklist entry might have been
MAYTAG RED (John Doe, 1989). TB, 36", L. Fire engine red. (I.
computeri X Paint Shop).
with an addendum in the '92 checklist
MAYTAG RED (John Doe, 1989). Donald's Nursery.
So I would have changed the original 80s checklist entry to
MAYTAG RED (John Doe, 1989). TB, 36", L. Fire engine red. (I.
computeri X Paint Shop). Donald's Nursery.
Oh boy, my brain just shorted out - I've forgotten if the year in the
entry is the year of registration or introduction or if it's supposed to
be both.... dang...

Blooming I. reticulata at Walmart in pots, ~4 blooming bulbs/pot, 2
pots/$5. Expensive for these inexpensive little bulbs, but nice for
those of us who didn't get around to planting more last fall.
