Oh, yes. I agree completely. The fat ones don't germinate as well as the oval and tapered/pointy ones. There is usually less of them in a pod as well than the others. Plus, the fat ones are much harder to use the cutting techniques when they don't germinate. But we really don't have any control over the shape of the seed. If we want to do a cross and it takes we accept what we get and hope for the best. I have many times had very few nice tapered or oval seeds from pods that had very few seeds. So, number of seeds per pod is not a likely cause of rounder seeds. I have noticed that the rounder seeds come from pods of more modern, broad and ruffled flowers with broad foliage and thick stalks like 'Silverado','Spellbreaker', 'Beverly Sills' and 'Good Show'. Yet something like 'Light Beam' and the MTB's with their narrower foliage and stems always makes smaller, tapered seeds. -----Original Message----- >From: Linda Mann <lmann@lock-net.com> >Sent: Feb 24, 2012 4:46 AM >To: iris@hort.net >Subject: Re: [iris] HYB: Disbudding for increased fertility > >Same here.
