Those of you who are not members of the American Iris Society
may be interested in the results of the AIS symposium (or popularity
poll), in which members vote for the favorite tall bearded irises.
The top ten this year are
Silverado light blue
Dusky Challenger dark purple
Jesse's Song violet on white plicata
Beverly Sills pink
Honky Tonk Blues hyacinth blue
Edith Wolford yellow and violet bicolor
Titan's Glory dark violet
Vanity pink
Lady Friend garnet red
Stepping Out violet on white plicata
All of these have been around long enough to be pretty well tested
and reasonably priced. 'Stepping Out' is the oldest one in the top
ten, having been introduced over thirty years ago. It's a perennial
favorite.
About a quarter of AIS members vote in the symposium, so it
represents the opinion of the rank-and-file iris fanciers, not just
the judges and hybridizers.
