John, I do hope you will think about joining AIS. I helped my grandmother
garden, and have grown irises since I was old enough to walk. As an adult, I
grew irises in my garden and considered myself fairly knowledgeable on them.
A lady who I bought irises from mentioned the American Iris Society every
year...and I finally broke down and joined (just to make this lovely lady
happy, I thought). Well, after getting a few AIS Bulletins and Region 4's
NEWSCAST, Suky and I decided to go to a regional meeting and go on the garden
tours. It was held in Towson, Maryland and hosted by the Francis Scott Key
Iris Society. We went, and our lives have never been the same. We had a
wonderful time, meet wonderful people who were so knowledgeable (and kind)
(and fun). Our lives have never been the same since. We think AIS is the
most wonderful group in the world (and I belong to almost every plant
society!) Think about it....hope you will give it a try! Best regards,
Clarence Mahan
