Most 'experts' recommend a very low nitrogen fertilizer.  This is supposed to
help bloom and retard rot.  I use superphosphate or 5-10-10.  Probably kelp
is not the best since I believe it's got some kind of super growth stimulant
in it which may promote the tendency to rot.

Of course, I'm no iris scientist.
