Dear Steve:
Iris cristata is one of my loves. I have been studying this species
casually for some time. Their are about 40 named variations less
than half of which have been registered with a cultivar name. White
cristatas show the same range of vigor that blue flowered forms do.
Some quite strong and vigorous some rather small and slow. If you
have a good white form it is worth naming it,registering it and
introducing it; since the variations at present are so few and most
people have not looked at them closely. For me in Missouri they make
wonderful carpets in open woodland and are a superb groundcover plant.
They ship with some dificulty when bareroot so it is not always
easy to establish a new plant. I would love to test your white
against some of my blues. maybe we could trade. Bob Pries
