The seedling these judges selected for the EC automatically gets
that award without the judges filling out anything. The show
chairman turns in this information into the AIS Exhibitions chairman.
On the official show report, there is a line for the nunber/name of
the best seedling.
Jeanne, maybe you were thinking of other worthy seedlings. I have
seen judges think other seedlings were worthy of an EC, vote on them,
but never mail in their ballot. I think the show chairman should
collect these votes for other seedlings and mail them to the
Exhibitions chairman, and then they will get counted and the iris
receive the award.
If you are a judge visiting a show as a spectator and like a
seedling, you should contact the show chairman, fill out a ballot and
return it to the show chairman. Or, you can mail it yourself.
I have also seen judges write down the seedling number so they can
enter it on the AIS Awards Ballot. These judges are confusing the EC
(show award) with an HC (garden award). It happens!
I admit that there is a lot to keep in mind. Attending as many JT
schools and show sessions will help one remember.
