My personal favorite boots are Wellies. Authentic wellies (originated in
England I think and called Wellingtons) are green, very soft, comfortable,
flexible rubber, that just last and last and last. The good ones run about
$60 and can be found in just about any horse/tack catalog and I think also
in Smith & Hawkins and/or Gardener's Supply carried them at some time.
Beware. There are also imitation ones, that can be found as cheap as $20,
but word of mouth says they don't last. However, I don't beleive the real
wellies come in an insulated version, though I've never had the need to wear
anything but a good pair of thick socks as I slog thru a 4 mile long
cross-country course in rain and snow preparing for the cross country phase
of a 3-day event or just doing the usual tinkering in the garden when it
isn't snowing and raining...
