Re: PHOTO: Lenses
From: Chris Darlington <chris.darlington@sympatico.ca>
Hello everybody,
One other point which I feel important when choosing a lense is that one
should be aware that different focal lengths create different effects.
If you opt for a longer lense between 135mm and 200mm you'll notice that
the final result will have a rather compressed and flat look.
A photo with a wide angle lense like a 28mm or less with produce a more
distorted three dimensional effect , it's like taking a close up of
somebody's face with a wide angle , it makes the poor subjects nose
looks twice the size , highly unflattering for a person but fun and
sometimes complimentary for an iris , depending on what it is.
Don't compromise on quality though , a doubler gives poor results with
reduced resolution and contrast. If you have a popular brand of single
lens reflex like Nikon and can't afford to buy Nikkor lenses , you can
save quite a bit of money by looking into Vivitar or Tamaron who make
lenses that fit many brands. These lenses have improved greatly over
the years and should please even the finicky.
One think I found out in photography school was the most expensive
optics that money can buy are not worth a damn, if you can't focus them.
Believe it or not , a chronic problem for many.
Enjoy and experiment
