Sandra;  As long as everyone is chipping in, I'll add a thought for a lense.
I do agree your better lenses are important but I took a middle line.
Vivitar puts out a 28MM to 70 MM zoom with Macro.  I find this does very
well for me useing a Minolta X700 ( automatic aperture or manuel ). When I
am in someone elses garden I carry a collapsible Mono-pod for using for
extra steadyness. I feel a tripod is to ackward to be in anothers garden but
I agree it is much steadier.     Bill
