Hi Allison. Don't worry about making too many crosses. You don't have to 
plant seeds just because you have them, but you can't plant seeds you don't 
have! Making lots of crosses gives you the luxury of selecting the most 
promising ones for planting. Also, seeds stay viable for several years. 
I've sometimes kept seeds from a "bumper crop" as insure against bad 
weather and few takes the following year. And extra seeds can make a great 
gift to a new iris grower who hasn't yet started hybridizing but is curious.
