Maybe that is it. There are a lot more experienced people on the list in
this regard than I am. But I don't think humidity in the general environment
in NM is going to cause rot because it is very dry. The fact that the person
who lives there doesn't, under normal circumstances, have any rot indicates
that also. They do have a problem when they water when it is very hot, so
there must be some interaction of the water and the heat.
Since iris grown in a dry climate don't usually rot, the next question to ask
is why all iris grown in humid climates don't rot. Because most of us live
in humid places, and the iris do pretty well. Should we protect iris from
rain or watering when it is hot? What about rebloomers?
