Hi,
During hot dry stretches here, I water in the evenings and only when they
really need it. I've have heard morning is a better time for watering, but not
in my experience. I think that morning watering leaves too much water near the
plants during the heat of the day, a condition which promotes rot. Watering in
the evenings gives the water time to be absorbed into the soil more thoroughly.
One drawback to evening watering is the possibility for more slug damage, but
that is seldom as serious to the plants health (except in the case of very young
seedlings).
