Dave and others,
This is the definition I understood to describe a variegata. I did, in early
innocence, think it applied to the yellow/gold over red only--SUPREME SULTAN
type.
Several years ago, I gave awards for the best variegata in our local show. I
quit giving the award because I was told that, technically, a variegata was
any iris that had three different colors. The plant version of a calico cat!
LOL! This was by a judge of many years standing. This judge said that
plicata's with the right colors would qualify as variegata.
This definition is something I never ran across in iris publications so I
thought I would throw it to the masses.
