Re: HYB:Seedling Vigor

Betty I had a bed with a row of roses and a row of SDBs in front. The SDB's
were planted with in 6" of roses. Sometimes I used a watering can sometimes
a hose sprayer. In both cases the fertilizer was applied to the rhizomes.
More so when I used the hose sprayer.

Another bed I had two rows of TBs and a row of annuals mostly. The front
row of TBs got over spray. Their grow was twice that of the back row.I use
a lot of compost with sand which make my soil very loose. When I dug the
iris then I found roots 4' to 5' long. I do not find them that long now. Now
each cultivars is surrounded by a half moon of 4' drive in edging to prevent
mixing.

When I do the seedlings now it is done with a watering can from the top on
leaves and rhizomes. I have lost maybe 5 or 6 % to rot. But when I lost them
it was very hot and humid, which I blame the rot on. This year I did not
need to water except to apply fertize. Very few times did we go longer than
3 days with out rain from March to September.

Is this what you wanted?
