I used to use a cotton ball dampened with alcohol to wipe down the
leaves on my orchids and what ever else was growing indoors. I just had
aphids on an amaryllis and tried that treatment on it and have had no
aphids return. I did not use a wet cotton ball, just damp. I had
problems with lily seedlings and lost quite a few because I could not
think of a way to wipe them down well enough with a q tip dampened with
alcohol. I decided to try spraying them with a solution of 1 part
rubbing alcohol to 1 part water. I used a very fine mist spray. It
worked and the lily seedlings did not seem to suffer. I had used alcohol
on mealy bugs for years but did not think about using it for any other
bugs till desperation forced me to try it.
