Hello, from a "lurker" in North Carolina
Donna Lockman, zone 7/8
When I joined this list, the first list I ever experienced, I had two rose
beds (about 50 roses), one water garden with Koi, and an iris bed just
started with Tall Beardeds. There were some yellow and purple ones here when
we bought the house.
I wanted to know more about irises, because I enjoyed mine so much.
Gee, I've learned things I'd never have known, things I needed to know,
things I will forever use and be thankful to you for, and things I will
never use, Best of all I learned how to grow healthy iris, and where to get
them. The hybridizers are my idols, and their catalogs (which are heavenly)
would not be a part of my gardening experience, had I not been here to read,
to get urls to their sites, to get addresses to aquire catalogs and irises,
and to ask the occasional gardening question.
The members here, who have traded or been generous enough to share info with
me are treasured gardening friends and mentors. I thank you all !
I think John Bruce and Judy E. will always be favorite mentors...they sent
me oodles (hope this word is OK to use) of iris plants. I never knew much
about any of the smaller irises until then...I only had Tall Bearded and
Japanese at the time. I love the little ones and there are certain places
that none other will do in my garden! I think Sun Doll is wonderful. I have
two areas of it now. So many, too many to name here, and they are all
lovely.
Neil M. has made me feel welcome even as the "lurker" that I tend to be...
I am so indebted to you all, and I hope it's ok to be a bit of a "lurker",
it just seems to be my nature? I cannot name all the folks here who have
helped me. Linda M. for one and I feel like I know, and yet have never met,
Rosalie F. and the wonderful Anner W.(is she still living?)
I now have 3 lovely beds of iris, thank you all, who have taught me how to
be fairly weed free , at least during peak bloom time (LOL), how to divide
and plant, how to fight the borer, to watch for rot, to use bleach and
.....so much I have learned here.
I must confess that I like daylilies too! Hostas, herbs and other perennials
are scattered all through, but my three main loves are Irises, Roses, and
Daylilies. I do enjoy my water lilies and Koi, but they are less work than
the others...don't have to weed them, Oh What Joy! Thank you all and I'm
sorry if my lurking makes you feel uncomfortable, I don't mean any harm. As
you can see , I ramble too much when I do post!
PS, Perhaps another word for "lurkers" could be "Lucker's", because we are
so Lucky to be able to learn from the list members!

Voyeurs?
Closet readers?
The silent majority?
Spies?
Actually 'lurker' has been a term used on the net for so long now that I
don't find it offensive. I associate it more with meaning a person who reads
an e-mail list without responding, than any other meaning.
Cheers, Jan, lurking donw under.
