Given the apparent health of the seedlings, look for cause and effect
outside the seedlings. Temperature drop? Spoors in the soil? In the past I've
read that soil sterilization is important to stop dampening off. I've used the
oven. Can't remember the temperature and time required.
I know it's discouraging. I didn't have high success rate starting vegetable
seed in the house and I'd probably have less luck with iris seed. The seed
came up fine with good germination, but I couldn't find a really good growing
situation. No grow lights.
Did you consult the moon phases? My x-mother-in-law swears by them. <vbg>
