Re: HYB: successes & failures


I think it might have been a combination of too cold, too wet, too
humid, not enough light, and too much fertilizer.  Added some bonemeal,
which I have never done before.

I transplanted more seedlings this week, this time leaving the door open
to keep it both warmer and drier, using sterile potting soil, barely
moistened.

I've had big losses in the past, but usually not right after
transplanting.

I am trying to tell myself it's all for the best - was going to have way
too many plants to handle this spring.  But it still hurts to lose some
of these crosses.

<Given the apparent health of the seedlings, look for cause and effect
                   outside the seedlings.  Temperature drop?  Spores in
the  soil?  In the past I've      read that soil sterilization is
important  to stop dampening off.>
