<<What survival rates are the rest of you seeing?>>
Linda, I have pretty high survival rate in my seedlings over the last 5-6
years. Most of my crosses now contain at least one seedling. And I do think
it makes a difference.

There are a few exceptions, like the HOT STREAK & EOE seedlings, where I had
something like 50% survival (estimate). But it was to be expected since HOT
STREAK has a problem in my area and comes from a line I have problems
growing.

And I have a very SAD looking bunch of seedlings in garden right now. Cross
was seedling X CANDY CLOUDS. Seedlings looked good in the summer. Although
I'm unhappy about it I'm not overly surprised. The seedling was half
BEVERLY SILL . . . never did well for me. CANDY CLOUDS died almost as soon as the
pod matured. I had high hopes but the seedlings look terrible now.

In contrast, The first 92 plants from 1812 have only lost about 6 in that
"failure to thrive mode." Pod parent is a proven northern rebloomer and the
pollen parent is strong and robust but has some of the same blood lines as HS
but through INNOCENT STAR. (both have GIGOLO) Something like 6 %. The 2005
sprouts are still 100%.

My EDITH WOLFORD cross was made in frustration back in 1999. It matured a
seed pod in a pot! I lost a lot of the seedlings, partly due to where I
planted them. But I got a couple of nice seedlings that I then crossed into my
rebloom lines. I can see Edith in them. I'm glad I got frustrated!

Anxious to see how this springs seedlings bring.

Make more crosses! If you don't cross them, you can't plant them!
