I am firmly of the opinion that 'if you build it (and its good) they will come'.
Facebook was nothing before it was Facebook. And that wasn't all so long ago (how old is Zuckerberg anyhow??) The same with all the other media sites. They all started small, but it was something that people liked so it grew.
