Excellent point! After all, if it were only beauty, no person with taste
would have kept Cook's PROGENITOR. What a horrid looking iris! Yet if Cook
had not used it in subsequent crosses there would have been no dominant
amoenas or "Emma Cook" pattern---which probably is, of all patterns, the one
