In my experience with crossing beardeds (all classes, including
arilbreds) you sometimes have to consider the genetic makeup of the
cross itself. That is, some crosses do not germinate as well as others.
This may be due to poor pollen of the parent, defects in the ovaries of
the pod or some other genetic makeup of the parents.
