I have a huge chest freezer that I bought used for $10 in the early 70's from
some friends who had received it as a wedding present in the early 50's. It
looks like the dickens, the gasket could be in better shape, and some of the
plastic around the edges of the liner has chipped, but it has been my sole
food storage locker since I bought it. It has never had anything wrong with
it and works great, except for the nuisance of manual defrost.

I believe Walter Moores said he has an ancient frosty chest freezer as well.
I thought mine was an unusual living fossil - sure wouldn't expect this kind
of endurance from most modern appliances. The things I learn here...: )
