I am an Ex-AOler and glad to be out of the loop..
1. If you use the net, an ISP (Internet Service Provider) is faster than
shelling out of AOL to browze.
2. With the net and computing reaching higher levels the problem with
speed and accessing sites is going to become increasingly longer or
slower. I will be pushing up daisies before we have fiber-optics here.
3. ISP's grow so fast that they collapse from the growth. We had only
AOL with a long distance call here. Then we got two ISP's with local
numbers. One failed in five months and the other is still here after a
year, but has been down for over a month. They upgraded the server and
I had the phone never answer and even a busy signal after upgrading the
server and loosing a large number of customers while upgrading. A new
ISP started two months ago and already has dialup problems.
4. Speed problems can be your
a. Computer & Modem
b. Amount of people looking at that HOT site while you are browzing.
c. The car that hit the telephone pole 1000 miles away.
d. Weather, sunspots, the snow storm that caused the accident.
You get the point, but to envision the fact that you could access a
remote computer 1000's of miles away in seconds (well OK minutes)
is Kool, Neat, Mondo and amazing.
