In a message dated 97-01-18 01:44:49 EST, you write:
<< That is not what my 1989 edition tells me.....on the dust jacket
it says:
256 pages
38 color photographs
32 black and white photographs
16 line illustrations
Mathew has the photographs identified and numbered on pp xi, xii
and xiii.
However, they are not 256 p. even including the table of contents
and the Foreward....there are 215 p.
>>
Ellen, this is what the dust jacket of my 1989 ed. also says. However, if
you differentiate between number of photos and pages of photos, and notice
that the pages of photos (plates, in bookspeak) are not numbered, I think you
will find that our 1989 eds. are the same. But, having seen quite a bit in
terms of publishers products, I would not discount the possibility of an
errant "3rd" or "2nd reprint" edition, either!
