rigorous growing conditions, presumeably to give an idea of the hardiness of
each one? Does anybody on this list send plants there? >>
I have supported the Loomis Test Garden from the beginning, as have Dr.
Zurbrigg and many others. It has been a great operation, I don't say that
just because my MTB REMINISCENCE won the Dr. Loomis Award in 1994. (Dr.
Zurbirgg's gorgeous TB MARAGRET VIOLA WHITE won a year or so before.)
But it should be kept in mind that irises which thrive in the mountains, with
the climate and soils peculiar to Colorado, will not necessarily thrive at
sea level in areas with heavy soils and lots of rain. Fortunately, MARAGRET
VIOLA WHITE and REMININSCENCE do thrive in such areas too!---forgive the
commercial! :) Clarence Mahan in VA
