As I understand it, at this point in the runup to the Dykes' Balloting,
the tipsters are saying that perennial favorite, TB Stables' entry
THORNBIRD, lacks the stamina to go the distance (and besides it is reported
to have horns - what is this anyway, a steer race?). No other TB entries
are eligible for this year's race, and repeat also-rans, BUMBLEBEE DEELITE
and JEWELLED CROWN, have been disqualified for trying too often and
cluttering the field. The Japanese entries are said to be too slow out of
the starting gate to have a chance. Upstart filly, LENORA PEARL, is rumored
to have broken her wind. So, what is out there in the rest of the field?
What's the track record on the other eligible BB's, ZINGER and CALICO CAT?
Could an IB come up on the outside or an SDB slip by along the rail in the
stretch? It is beginning to sound like every horse in this race is on the
dark side.
