Without going to my records I can speak only of Dusky Challenger.  I
have used it quite a bit and do not remember seeing too many
"throwbacks".  As Gary Sides mentioned one must use the most modern
formed flowers to get decent modern form.  This is what I did using
Dusky Challenger X Ruffled Goddess.  See SUDDEN IMPACT on the cork

Roger will also introduce a Dusky Challenger child in 1999 called
HOLLYWOOD NIGHTS, which is a large, dark purple with lace. 

In both cases Dusky Challenger was used as the pod parent.  This
reinforces my recollection of DC being stingey with it's pollen.
