Apologies for the confusing shorthand. The irises themselves are not
'dogs' and are not named after Siberian Huskies, but rather the flowers
are more likely named after beagles or perhaps Bassett hounds. These
'throwback' irises should be referred to as having 'dog-eared flowers',
with long, strappy falls that flap in the breeze. Although I must admit
I have never seen any kind of hounddog ears that are as narrow at the
scalp as some doggie iris falls....
