Dear Kay,
Chad (I think) made mention of Monet's garden in his reply
to you. The book: "Secrets of Monet's garden" by Derek Fell
(Friedman/Fairfax - N.Y. 1997) shows wonderful pictures of Monet's
'plante bands' in the 'Clos Normand', his garden at Giverny. His irises
are a mixture of colours, probably quite modern hybrids at the time.
They are planted in long bands, bordered with low growing annuals and
set off against wall flowers and salvias, tulips and paeonies, etc.
His idea was to have a garden in full bloom at all times
throughout the year, so his plant combinations would be well worth
looking at.
I have a sloping orchard which I would love to terrace and
plant in this style. It may not appeal to you, but worth a look if you
can find the book.
regards - Jan Clark
