I must admit I am guilty of this often. I read my mail very quickly, and
sometimes hit the delete button too fast, and think later - I could have
answered that. Usually I try and hold things over and see if someone else
answers it if i am busy.
Often I simply have my own agenda, or I am distracted and vague. Forgive us
these human frailties Lynn:-)
As Donna said - I certainly opened a can of worms here. It has been so
refreshing to read all these comments from lurkers. I lurked on the old
iris-l for 2 months before joining, and writing. I devoured the archives
with relish, and got to know many people who are still members (and many who
are no longer) before they even knew I existed. There is the element of a
soap opera in progress, with a number of actors, and an audience.
I learnt heaps from lurking - probably more than I have from actively
participating.
Sometimes a question asked goes astray, because the answerer is answering
something else, or gets distracted and ends up on a different thread
altogether. This happens in normal conversations all the time.
Great to hear that Sharon is still there - I thought we had lost you!
I agree whole heartedly with everything Anner has to say about the archives,
and look forward to reading her tutorial. Most of the e-group archives are
virtually unuseable, compared to our Mallorn archives.
One more reason for lurking - I have a vast library of past mailings, many
of a technical nature, stored on my computer. I have learnt heaps from
reading, and rereading these.
Well - It's a sunny day, so I must go and dig up some more of my garden, and
fill a few more pots with precious plants for the upcoming move,
Cheers, Jan, in Australia
