Re: SHOW: Do I have a grooming problem?

Vince

I am by far no expert on grooming, but from what you
described as the stalks you took to the show, they
were literally for display only. When the judges look
at a stalk, they are not only looking at the good
qualities, but they are also looking at the flaws.
When exhibited you want to make the stalk lok at
perfect as possible. Believe me, the judges are
looking at everything. I learned the hard way never
to shove a stalk into the display container and never
have the side leaves in the container. There are too
many ways to trim and wedge the stalk to make it
display just right.

I too carried some iris to the show that didn't get
any ribbons at all, but I carried them for display
only. When you open the doors to the public, they
don't see the things that the judges look for. All
they see is the beauty of the color and that is enough
for them.

Variety is the spice of life and if bringing stalks
for display only is all you have, then take all you
can. Groom them to the best of you ability and keep
on smiling!
