I. wattii

I was wondering if anyone grows Iris wattii in a hot climate? I've had
a clump for a number of years, but it suffers badly during hot weather
(100+ for a few days). I have it in light shade a few feet from a tree
on the north side. I hand water and admit that I don't water heavily,
though I try to keep some things watered regularly. We are having
a particularly hot year and it is already dying back badly and it
is only July 1st. I'm concerned that I will lose all of it. Do I just need
to water more? Could competition with tree roots be a problem?
