I have a diploid bearded species cross seedling which has only been
in the ground one year. In April, it sent up a very early (for
Maryland) bloom stalk; followed a few weeks later by two more stalks
(during early-midseason). Now, it's doing another stalk -- and it's
July 10th. No other irises are blooming around here at all, in fact
I'm harvesting seedpods from the early stalk. I was hoping to work on
rebloom at the diploid level, and had hoped to get F2 (second
generation) seedlings with some rebloom from crosses like this one;
but the possibility of first generation rebloom seemed unlikely.
My question is..."Is this something to really be excited about? Or
is it typical for a very vigorous hybrid seedling to bloom
erratically until it gets more mature and settled?"
