I do occasionally "save" a plant or two. But with what you
described, they had to know that they were not abandoned. It was
definately stealing and I know it is heartbreaking. The place I save
from is an abandoned house sight and I do have permission from the
owners. I live at the end of a dead end road... very remote.
Occasionally we will get people who are just riding around,
especially this time of year... they see this country dirt road and
think "I wonder where that goes"... and then they just take it to see.
My vehicle was in the shop getting an oil change and hubby was gone.
I heard a vehicle and thought it was my in-laws so I just kept on
what I was doing. The dogs were pitching a fit so I finally looked
out.. Low and behold, there stood someone with a shovel. I have a
branch that goes seperates my front yard from the dirt road and I
have daylilies planted on the YARD side of it. They were fixing to
dig. I through open the front door and screamed Just what in the
H!!! do you think you are doing??? The look of shock on there face
was priceless, they didn't think anyone was home. Said they thought
they were wild. I said really now how many wild daylilies have you
seen with a plant marker in front of them? I asked them to leave and
they hesitated. Well we have been having problems with coyotes so
there is a 22 magnum rifle propped beside my front door, I just
pulled it out and they left in a heart beat... It is funny now, but
at the time I though... I should have shot them!
