Hi Ellen,
>I prefer not to have I. versicolor or I. setosa in my garden.
I have versicolor growing in my swampland but haven't yet transplanted
any into my beardless bed. I do like the look of it and some of its
registered cvs, though, so I'm certainly not adverse to adding it to the
garden beds at some point. I also love my setosa and would like to add
more of them in time.
> We do enjoy I. pseudacorus.
I like pseudacorus, too, but it scares me. I have a nice clump planted
by the pond behind the barn, but I doubt I'll be moving any of it into
the yard. I saw it being dug out of its previous garden, and I'm afraid
I keep neither jackhammers nor dynamite on hand. ;-) I sure wouldn't
mind adding more pseud cvs to the pond edge, though.
> Of course, I am speaking from the eastern end of USDA Zone 3
I am guessing you get more consistent snowfall there in the mountains
than we do here in the northern plains. I'm sure our virtual lack of
snow until Feb this last winter didn't help my iris situation any.

Up until this last winter, my CA TBs did just fine. They made their
climatic transition well in their first year. In fact, irises from all
over the country tend to acclimate equally successfully (or
unsuccessfully) here. I have found that early planting is far more
important to first year survival than location of origin of the rhizomes.

I'd love to see your list, Ellen. Does it count that this request is
coming via a post to the list rather than private mail? ;-)

Laurie (glad our 90s and high humidity have finally moved East! No a/c
here, either. Darn lucky we didn't burn out the window fans.)
