Apologies, I maybe didn't read your BIO. Start with a soil test. Trial and
error is a valid scientific method. What works for others may not work for
you. Take all you read with a grain of salt. Become a member of the American
Iris Society (AIS). The AIS Journal, published four time a year, comes as
part of your membership. Arguably, it is the single best source of iris
information.
Glad you are on board. Have fun, participate, "walk the plank" often.
