The new bulletin arrived accompanied with the Iris Symposium ballet.  Boy was I surprised to be growing so many that are on the ballet.  Of course this is due to the generosity of Glenn & Susan Grigg and Lloyd Zurbrigg.  I imagine many people use the symposium ballet to select irises for their gardens, and this of course got me thinking.....

Wouldn't it be great if you could go to a website such as http://aisrhizome.com and purchase any of the top 100 iris from the Symposium.  The AIS could help support this endeavor through partnership and make a little money (5%) for the AIS general fund at the same time.  A garden such as Cooley's, Shrieniner's, etc., could set up a website specifically selling these irises.  It could be linked directly from the AIS homepage and advertised in the Bulletin.  A simple shopping cart could be added.  In fact, a "Buy Now" button could be placed next to each cultivar name on the AIS website page that reports the Symposium results.  PayPal is so simple to set up and use it would be a great service to AIS members and gardeners in general.  

I have been wondering why the AISgiftshop.com site has not already employed this, but I assume they do not have the nursery capabilities for such an operation.  I also imagine that this would be such a huge successful business adventure that even someone starting this as a new business from scratch would be profitable.

I also read in the Bulletin where AIS membership continues to decrease.  There are obviously reasons for the decline but it seems this subject is often times considered taboo and not spoken in public places.  Perhaps a bit a open reality conversation would help identify problems and also initiate new ideas that would strengthen AIS.

The rebloomers are putting on a grand show right now in our garden.
