In reference to Iris Moose's symposium ideas:
I still think the publication of the regional symposium ballot in the
regional newsletter is the best bet to find out what grows well in
your area.
Many of the irises on the AIS Symposium do not grow equally well
throughout the country, and I doubt that Schreiner's or Cooley's,
even with their magic, could get all of them to grow. Irises are
added and some are dropped each year, so it would be hard to
maintain a complete collection offered yearly.
I really like Gerry Snyder's proposal of retiring several on the list
and incorporating them into the Hall of Fame. We all know how
well-liked STEPPING OUT, DUSKY CHALLENGER, VANITY are,
and for the most part, these do pretty well around the country. Let's
put them in the HALL of Fame and get some newer blood on the
Symposium. I hope the AIS Board will adopt Gerry's suggestions
about the Symposium. I think it would encourage more
participation, too.

In my opinion, it would make way for other deserving, newer
varieties.
