Hi Doris and Talkers,

I am probably going to open another can of worms by
asking this but (since we are talking about the
quality of supplier's orders) I was wondering what
quality of rhizomes people have received from Aitkens
Gardens. I stopped ordering from them a number of
years ago because the rhizomes they sent were not up
to par. They were very small and often, after waiting
a couple of years for them to bloom, they turned out
to be incorrectly named. Since I am on a first name
basis with them and consider them to be my friends, I
never said anything, I just stopped ordering anything
from them. Talking with some of the other club members
and other irisarians, I discovered that I was not the
only one that had experienced this. This year they are
introducing Mary Smith's Obsidian which is the
blackest black iris I have ever seen with wonderful
ruffling, bud count and from what I saw, was growing
very well in the guest gardens in Salem. The picture
in the catalog doesn't do it justice. Anyway, I really
want to get it but am afraid for $40 I am going to get
a scrawny, misnamed rhizome. Has Aitken's been pretty
good about their rhizome quality lately?
