HI Connie,
If it's really been hot and you don't see a break in sight in the next
few days, I'd put them in pots in the shade...it'll let the roots get a good
start (and thus more possibly bloom sooner). Potting mix should be 1/3
native soil (from your yard of course), 1/3 commercial potting soil (I use
miracle grow "garden soil"), 1/3 corse sand or "builder's" sand. Water
them when you first pot them up, but I would be careful not to water them too
much, let them dry out between watering. And keep in shade, as deep shade
as possible until temps cool off. This is pretty much based on Walter
Moore's article on starting iris in pots and many of us on the list have
found it to work very well. Good luck!
