Donald, that is interesting. It can be hot here (as in 110 for
several days these
past couple of weeks), but I do get cooler winters than, say, San Diego.
And I
vote for Dusky Challenger on any list any time. I would describe my area as
borderline
to the "hot, sunny locations" you are probably describing. Dusky
Challenger can
put a show on for me, however, I have noticed, that if I move Dusky's
rhizomes (dig and
divide), she may very well pout the next year and not bloom at all or poorly
compared
to others. So I grow her in two locations, so that I am not moving her all
the time.
I've had other Schreiner's do this even more significantly (particularly
Pledge Allegiance,
which would skip years even when I didn't move the rhizomes), so maybe it's
in the genes,
or maybe it has something to do with the borderline hot climate I have?
