It isn't banned yet in NH. They are currently holding public hearings to get input. Also on the prospose list are burning bush, barberry and Norway maple. Couple other garden staples too.
If the list is passed as is it will go into effect Jan 1, 2004 and I believe there will be a phasing out period for nurseries.
Here's a link to the next public hearing on it. Not much info I'm afraid.

Impossible to for me to make it down the southern end of the state but if they have one in the north country I may.
I'm not sure how I feel about it. It's very aggressive but I really wouldn't call it invasive. It can be thinned. Easy to nip pods off. Nothing like purple loosestrife with it's tens of thousands of seeds. It doesn't cross easily with our native iris. Man has to do the crossing. I will rip it up if I have to but I will miss it. Been growing here now for ten plus years and none have shown up where I didn't put them. Clumps have gotten larger and every few years I have to rip and tear but it does stay in the yard. 3 clumps are still 3 clumps.
I admit I don't know what to do with last weeks thinnings. Usually I swap it for something else or give it away. It's sitting in buckets near my pond and is growing and recovering from my not very nice thinning methods.
Unfortunately you can't legislate stupidity and common sense. I think a lot of the enforcement money earkmarked for this stuff would be better used educating people.
I suspect that NH will be held to it's state motto of "live free or die" and change very little but you never know.
I also have purple loosestrife around my pond which I battle tooth and nail. Had the cultivar Morden's Gleam for years and it was very well behaved then a wild one showed up and now I go around the pond daily and rip seedlings up. MG got dug up and left in the sun. It did come back a couple times but I'm very slowly winning. Can't use roundup because of the pond and my well which is only about 8 feet away from waters edge. Good old yellow flag is nothing compared to this plant.
