There's one category of names that seems always to be in high demand -
names including proper nouns like Jan, Doris, or Laurie (g). I've read
numerous requests over the last couple years from folks looking for
irises named after themselves, friends, family members, or pets. I've
purchased several irises for that reason myself and will no doubt
continue to do so. If I were a hybridizer with the primary goal of
selling LOTS of irises, I'd be assigning a proper noun to the name of
every iris that left my garden.
Thank goodness I'm not a hybridizer, eh? ;-)
